Road Safety & Parking
School Zone rules
- Operate around St Mary’s from 8-00am – 9.30am and from 2.30pm – 4.00pm each school day.
- Heavy penalties including fines and demerit points operate for offences such as ‘Double Parking, ‘Stopping on/across driveways’’ and disobeying ‘No Stopping’ signs.
- For a full list of rules visit the RTA site http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au or call 132213.
Parking
- There are NO PARKING facilities on site at the school.
- Churchyard parking is only available for teachers, people attending morning mass, parents working on canteen and visitors to the parish centre.
- Parking is available in the Manly Council car parks (up to 2 hours free). There are council car parks in Whistler Street, Wentworth Street and Central Avenue Manly.
Kiss & Drop/Collect
- Children can be dropped/collected from the ‘Kiss and Drop/Collect’ zones in Denison Street and Whistler Street.
- Parents can stop for no more than 2 minutes and should stay within 3 metres of their car.
- In the afternoons, parents should announce themselves on arrival to the teacher on duty who will call their child/ren over the loudspeaker.
- Parents must not exit the car to talk to other parents or visit the school office as this disrupts the flow of traffic.
- Do not double park – children must only enter a car from the footpath.
- Do not hold up the flow of traffic waiting for a spot – and do not queue jump. If a space is not available in the ‘Kiss & Drop/Collect’ zone, simply drive around the block until there is space available to pull safely into the rear of the queue.
- New families receive a family name sign when their children begin school. These signs are kept in cars and are used to signal the arrival of a particular family car in a collection area.
Churchyard Collection
- Parents can also drop/pick up children from the Churchyard (enter via Raglan Street).
- Parents using this zone must be able to easily form 2 queues and must remain in their cars so teachers on duty can supervise children safely.
- Parents must not park their car anywhere within the churchyard and walk over to collect children.
- Parents should also avoid walking through this area on their way to the shops or other destinations beyond the school.
Bike safety
We request that any child riding a bike or scooter to school MUST wear a helmet.
