Communicating with the school
The school offers a number of ways for parents/carers to keep up-to-date with news and their child’s progress.
WeeklySchool Newsletters
Weekly School Newsletters are given to the eldest child in each family on Friday.
They can also be accessed online through CEnet (formerly CASTnet):
- Step 1 - enter
- Step 2 - enter the 'User Name' and 'Password' that has been supplied to your child by their class teacher
- Step 3 - you will now be in the 'Class foyer' page - from here simply select 'Parent Page'
- Step 4 - select 'St Mary's Newsletter' to download the PDF.
Online information about schoolwork
- CEnet (formerly known as CASTnet) -parents and students can visit CEnet for information related to schoolwork.
- School website - this website also contains content developed by our students such as:
- Showcase – a selection of work by our students
- Virtual Tour - a guide to St Mary’s Catholic School Manly
- About this Technology project – a behind-the-scenes look at how the students helped build this website.
Weekly Assembly
Weekly Assembly takes place at 2.40pm each Thursday. Parents are also welcome to stay for the brief morning assembly at 8.40am each day. We ask that parents stand near the fence at the back of class lines to ensure children can move safely off to class.
Class parents
Class parents liaise with teachers and families and arrange social get togethers.
Parent information nights
Parent information nights are generally held in Term 1 to brief parents on the curriculum. Written Program Outlines are also sent home each term.
Student Progress Reports
Reports are issued towards the end of Terms 2 and 4. Work samples are also sent home throughout the year for parents to review.
Three Way Interviews
Interviews involving child/parent/teacher are currently available at the end of Terms 1 and 4.
Meetings with teachers
If a minor issue arises please approach the teacher for a brief discussion (eg. 5 minutes after school) and/or to arrange a better time to meet.
If a major concern or issue does arise we ask families to follow this simple procedure:
1. Contact the office to organise an interview time with a class/specialist teacher (this will ensure that the Principal or Assistant Principal is aware of the need for the meeting and enables them to provide support for children/parents and teachers when/if required).
2. Meet with the teacher at the agreed time to discuss the issue/concern.
3. Check with the teacher at a future date if necessary to discuss progress.
We would ask parents to remember that children may only have one version of problems of events that occur at school. It’s really important to check things out with a with a teacher so that a balanced view of any situation can be gained by all and an appropriate plan of action developed for school and/or home. We pray our school motto – Listen and Love – will guide our conversations about the children in our care, We would also suggest that notes written by parents remain perhaps one of the most effective ways of alerting a teacher to a particular issue or concern.
